📌 Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) / Dry Needling: Targeted Relief for Muscle Pain
IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) or Dry Needling is an advanced physiotherapy technique used to effectively treat chronic pain caused by muscle tightness, shortening, and trigger points. It is not traditional acupuncture, but a science-based approach using fine, sterile needles to directly target dysfunctional muscle tissue.

What Is It?
The technique involves inserting a needle directly into a tight band or trigger point within a muscle. When the needle hits a shortened, hypersensitive muscle, it often elicits a characteristic, brief twitch or cramp. This is a therapeutic signal that forces the muscle to release its tension, effectively resetting the muscle to a normal, resting length.

Key Benefits
1. Releases Chronic Muscle Shortening: Directly addresses muscle knots and deep tension that manual therapy or stretching cannot fully resolve.
2. Reduces Referred Pain: By releasing a primary trigger point, IMS can eliminate pain that radiates to other areas (e.g., releasing a shoulder muscle that refers pain into the arm).
3. Restores Function: Once the muscle is lengthened and relaxed, range of motion improves, allowing you to move with less pain and participate more fully in your rehabilitation exercises.
4. Accelerates Healing: Helps improve blood flow to the area, promoting better recovery of the soft tissues.

IMS/Dry Needling is a powerful tool used by our physiotherapists to resolve underlying muscle dysfunction, moving your body beyond a cycle of chronic pain and stiffness.
